Eskom has achieved 200 consecutive days without implementing loadshedding, marking the longest period of uninterrupted power supply since the energy crisis began in 2007.
The milestone reflects improved generation performance, with the energy availability factor reaching 72%, up from 54% at the same point in 2024. Kusile and Medupi power stations have both achieved consistent generation above 80% of installed capacity.
Energy Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa cautioned that the system remains constrained, with a thin reserve margin that could be threatened by winter demand peaks. Planned maintenance has been deferred to maintain supply, potentially creating risks for the summer months.
